1951 | Bakken Formation initially described by geologist J.W. Nordquist. |
1960s
1961 | Cable Incorporated expands Sterling, CO location with new building & shops. |
1963 | New Cable Incorporated branch opened in Gillette, WY. |
1970s
1975 | Cable, Inc. continues to expand through Colorado, Utah, & Wyoming. |
1976 | Luft Machine founded by Allen Luft in Sterling, CO. (divested 2014) |
1980s
1984 | Owen Hanson opens Hanson Hot Oil Service in Watford City, ND. Canary Wellhead, founded by Lynn Blevins in OKC. |
1986 | Frontier Wellhead & Supply established in Watford City, ND. |
1989 | Bobby Spicer opens Spicer Wireline in Bakersfield, CA. |
1990s
1995 | U.S. Geological Survey shows an estimate 151 million barrels of oil can be recovered in the Williston Basin. |
2000s
2003 | Bob Hvinden sets off to start his own oilfield company Kodiak Stack Testing in Williston, ND. Western Wellhead founded in Spring, TX. |
2005 | Western Wellhead moves in to Grand Junction, CO. |
2008 | Frontier Energy Group, LLC acquires Frontier Wellhead & Supply, Co. |
2009 | Frontier acquires Kodiak Stack Testing in July. Frontier enters the CO oilfield through its acquisition of Cable, Inc. and its 4 locations. |
2010s
2010 | Western Wellhead Grand Junction, CO acquired in January. Frontier Pressure Testing relocates to new Williston facilities. Hanson Hot Oil acquired and becomes Frontier Hot Oil. |
2011 | To better supply Frontier’s growing equipment needs Luft Machine is purchased. |
2012 | Frontier acquires Spicer Wireline Inc opening up a new region for Frontier. |
2013 | Frontier’s purchases the Canary Wellhead’s stock, the largest acquisition yet, creating a national footprint. |
2013 | Frontier Energy Group, LLC becomes Canary, LLC, becoming largest independently held wellhead company in North America. |
2013 | Canary expands into Texas with Acquisition of Crystal City’s Tri-Star Wellhead. |
2014 | Expansion continues with Odessa, TX-based American Wellhead. |
2014 | Luft Machine is divested as Luft, LLC to focus on agriculture and non-Canary oilfield fabrication. |
2014 | Canary recognized as one of America’s Fastest Growing Companies by Inc. Magazine. |
