(Denver, CO)—Canary, LLC, an oilfield services company specializing in wellhead equipment, was recently awarded a spot on the 2014 Inc. 5000—a list of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. This year, Canary joins companies from 25 industry sectors who have demonstrated tremendous growth over a three year period. Canary, whose revenue grew 285% from 2010 to 2013, is seated at number 1503 on the list. It is also the second fastest-growing oilfield services company on the list, and within the top 50 energy companies.
Canary, which was known as Frontier until 2013, was officially founded in 1984. However, rapid expansion didn’t begin until 2009, when Dan Eberhart & Don Pfister purchased a small wellhead company in Watford City, North Dakota—located in the heart of the Bakken shale play.
After the purchase of Frontier, Eberhart became the CEO and the company operated with just 12 employees. But that didn’t last long: Five years and over 10 acquisitions later, the newly rebranded Canary, LLC has around 500 employees—and they’ve added 265 of those jobs in just the last three years. The company is now the sixth-largest privately held oilfield services company and the largest independent wellhead service provider in the United States.
According to Mr. Eberhart, Canary’s employees should get the credit for the company’s growth and success: “We can’t wait to celebrate with the employees who made it possible for us to be included on the Inc. 5000 and become one of the fastest-growing companies in the country,” he says.
The Inc. 5000 is an expansion of Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 500 list, which has been ranking the fastest-growing private U.S. companies since 1982. Past honorees have included Microsoft, Timberland, Chobani, and Zappos.com. This year, Canary joins the list with GoDaddy.com, ABC Supply, Ambit Energy, and Anytime Fitness.
To be eligible for the 2014 list, companies must have generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2010, and at least $2 million in 2013. They must be privately held, for-profit, and independent. Inc’s list includes a category for fast-growing companies in the energy sector. In addition to Canary, energy industry companies included in this year’s list are Chaparral Energy (#4324), Black Elk Energy (#2738), and Latshaw Drilling & Exploration (#2710), amongst others.
