OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Hydraulic fracturing, the Keystone Pipeline and the use of rail to transport crude were just a few of the items discussed during a visit from Congressman James Lankford (R-OK) to the Canary facility in Oklahoma City on Monday. Canary is the nation’s largest independent wellhead company with operations in every major shale oil and gas region in the United States.
Employees at the facility visited with the congressman about concerns regarding studies on hydraulic fracturing, a process that is commonly referred to as fracking, and the public’s perception of the practice. Fracking has been used for several years and can be contributed to the boom we are experiencing in Oklahoma. Employees expressed their opinion that states should set regulations not the federal government.
“There’s a strong demand for America’s natural gas on American soil and elsewhere, and we should not delay to meet the growing need. We need to allow companies like Canary to continue to work hard and improve our country and state’s economic independence and sustainability,” said Lankford.
In addition to the fracking conversation, the Keystone Pipeline was a discussion and whether President Obama will approve the Northern leg of the project. Congressman Lankford doesn’t expect the House or Senate to take up the issue anytime soon, but expressed support for the project. In the meantime, there is much talk about the use of rail to move crude until the pipeline is completed.
“Canary has a vested interest in what’s happening on the energy front in Washington. The regulations and policies set effect our day to day operations and have an impact on our employees,” said Dan Eberhart, Canary Chief Executive Officer. “We appreciated Congressman Lankford’s time and honest discussion about how the policies and happenings in Washington effect companies like Canary, and look forward to the opportunity to have a deeper discussion about energy independence.”
