Catch a glimpse of what you missed from “Everything Really is Bigger in Texas”
Up for Consideration: Texas has long been America’s leading oil and gas producer, and with the continuing promise of Eagle Ford and other plays, it looks like the state will remain top dog for the foreseeable future.
The Skinny: According to Deb Hastings, Vice President of the Texas Oil and Gas Association, fracking is responsible for a 180-degree turnaround in the state’s oil production: “Advances in hydraulic fracturing technology are the reason for the dramatic growth in oil and natural gas production in Texas and across the US,” and at the epicenter of the Texas shale boom, is Eagle Ford.
What it Means: Eagle Ford is one of the most promising shale plays in the world for many reasons:
• Sheer size: The US Geological Survey estimates Eagle Ford’s potential capacity at 10 billion barrels of oil.
• Top crude: Eagle Ford consistently produces high quality crude that’s exceptionally light, sweet and easy to refine.
• Location, location, location: Eagle Ford’s proximity to Houston and Corpus Christi make transportation of product inexpensive and highly accessible.
• It’s not alone:Texas is also home to other promising shale plays at Cline, Wolfcamp, and Haynesville
The Take-Away: The shale boom is having a huge impact on the Texas economy, and not just the O&G sector. What began with the energy industry has expanded to create commerce in such diverse fields as IT, professional services, real estate, construction, hospitality, and transportation — to name just a few.
